Ford Heights Man Charged in Liquor Store Robbery

A Ford Heights man is being held on $250,000 bond after allegedly robbing a liquor store at gunpoint, Friday.

Michael Nelson, 18, of the 1500 block of Senator Lane, allegedly robbed a liquor store on the 900 block of Lincoln Highway in Ford Heights with an accomplice.

According to a Sheriff's department press release:

The two men wore black masks, black hats and hoodies and demanded money, but the victim recognized the gunman, as Nelson frequented the store as a customer.

When Nelson pointed his gun at the victim, the man engaged in conversation with him, even calling him by his nickname “Lil Mike”, because he thought it was a joke.  Only after Nelson and his accomplice became aggressive and threatening did the store manager realize the situation was serious.  The manager then opened the register, Nelson’s accomplice took cash, and both men fled the store.
