Florida Hit-and-Run Suspect Arrested in South Loop

Suspect is due back in court Monday

A man sought in a fatal Florida hit-and-run was arrested in Chicago Friday, more than 1,000 miles away from the crime scene. He's due back in court Monday.

Police found Adam Shepard, 30, of Topeka, Kan., in a South Loop hotel about two weeks after he crashed his 2005 Acura on Jan. 22 into a pedestrian in front of a Jacksonville Beach apartment complex. Spencer Schot, 35, died from injuries.

Shepard's car was recovered a week after being seen fleeing the area.

On Friday evening, Shepard was found at Best Western, at 1100 S. Michigan Ave. He was held without bail.
