Flights Delayed Into Chicago As Storm Pushes East

Multiple flights were canceled or delayed because of the powerful storm

The snow and wind didn't hit Chicago, but it had a stormy impact on local passengers trying to return home from their holidays.

Multiple flights were canceled Wednesday because of a powerful storm that pushed into the Northeast after unloading on Indianapolis along the way. The cancelations mean many of Thursday's flights are already booked, leaving lots of passengers still stranded in Chicago.

"The first flight I can leave on is 6 a.m. Friday," passenger Marcus Rodriguez said at O'Hare Airport.

Rodriguez saw two of his flights canceled Wednesday. They were just a couple of the nearly 2,000 canceled and 10,000 delayed on that day alone.

"I actually checked online to see if my flight was on time," Rodriguez said. "It did say it was on time for 3 p.m., [but] it got canceled. Then the flight I got re-assigned to was also canceled."

As the storm headed east, parts of New Jersey braced for up to eight inches of snow and gusting winds. As of 7 a.m. Thursday, most of the flights from the Northeast were canceled or delayed.

Outbound flights appeared to be normal, but inbound flights were expected to face more delays throughout the day.
