A five-year-old boy was hit by an SUV in the Austin neighborhood Saturday evening and then trapped underneath the car.
Vivian Belk said her five-year-old nephew and his mother were coming to visit her in the 500 block of North Pine when the boy got away from his mother and was hit by an SUV. The incident happened at about 6:50 p.m.
"The car was rapidly coming down the street ... still had my nephew trapped under the car," Belk said.
Emergency crews responded to the scene, and the boy was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood in serious condition, but his family says now that he will be just fine.
The family said the driver was extremely apologetic and stayed at the scene to talk to police about what happened.
It is unclear whether charges will be filed.
