The 41-year-old man and his 40-year-old female companion were walking together when a group of five males approached the couple and verbally assaulted them, according to Chicago police.
One of the offenders punched the man, causing him to fall to the ground, police said. The man was taken to St. Francis Hospital and reported in serious condition.
All of the men were taken into custody. Walter Gonzalez, 18, of the 5000 block of North Western Avenue was charged with one felony account of aggravated battery.
