‘Very Dramatic': One of Country's Largest Fireworks Shows to Spark in Chicago Suburb Sunday, Organizers Say

The Independence Day celebration at Arlington Park will spark Sunday at dusk in what organizers claim to be the biggest display in the Chicago area and one of the largest in the U.S.

Fireworks will light up the skies of a Chicago suburb over this Fourth of July holiday weekend for what could be one of the country’s largest fireworks shows.

The Independence Day celebration at Arlington Park will spark Sunday at dusk in what organizers claim to be the biggest display in the Chicago area and one of the largest in the U.S.

The choreographed show, put on by Ace Pyro, will last 34 minutes, featuring more than 2,700 shells with multiple launch locations across an 800-foot grandstand. One thousand shells are reserved for the finale alone.

“The last 90 seconds, a third of the product will be in the air,” said Karl Maerz, owner of Ace Pyro. “It will be very dramatic.”

The production, which organizers claim is even bigger than the annual holiday display at Chicago's Navy Pier, takes about four days to set up.

An expected 40,000 fans will look on from inside the park for what organizers call a “pyromusical.”

“When you hear that Adele song, there won’t be a dry eye in the house,” Maerz said.
