Building Demolished After 3-Alarm Fire in Lawndale

More than 150 firefighters battled the flames, which consumed most of the building

A commercial structure in Chicago's Lawndale neighborhood had to be demolished Tuesday after firefighters battled a 3-11 alarm fire there hours earlier.

The building caught fire around 5:30 a.m. at 4011 W. Ogden Ave., and the blaze was upgraded to a third alarm just before 6:30 a.m. as firefighters were in "defensive mode."

More than 150 firefighters battled the flames, which consumed most of the building.

Officials say the building houses a recording studio and a banquet hall. They anticipated it may collapse following the fire.

No injuries were reported, but the fire prompted road closures at Odgen Avenue and Pulaski Road.

The Chicago Transit Authority also said No. 53 Pulaski buses were being re-routed.

Surrounding buildings were also being evacuated as a precaution, officials said.
