Firefighter Hurt in Overnight Fire

The fire was contained to the first floor, official says

A Chicago firefighter is recovering from injuries from an early morning fire on the North Side.

The fire started around 4 a.m. in a three-story apartment building in the 2700 block of West Francis Place in the Logan Square neighborhood.

It was contained to the first floor, a fire department official said. Ten residents from all three floors were displaced.

The firefighter was taken to St. Mary's Hospital in serious condition after falling down a flight of stairs, said Chicago Fire Department Spokesman Larry Langford.

"It looked more exciting than it was. He took a minor fall and hit his shoulder, but he's fine. He'll be released," said Langford.

No other injuries were reported.
