That meant big detours for folks headed to O'Hare Airport Thursday morning.

The fire started around 2:15 a.m. and caved in the vacant motel's roof, leaving firefighters to tackle the blaze from the perimeter. Smoke stretched two miles to the east and south of the vacant motel, located at 3010 N. Mannheim.

No injuries were reported.

Firefighters from several suburbs were dispatched to fight the flames and protect a three-level apartment building in the back.
