Fire Extinguished at West Side Grocery

A fire at an occupied Market Fresh grocery has been extinguished Sunday afternoon in the Humboldt Park neighborhood and no one was hurt.

The fire started at 12:37 p.m. at the store, located in a 1-story strip mall at 800 N. Kedzie Ave., according to Fire Media Affairs spokesman Richard Rosado.

The dimensions of the structure are 600 feet by 100 feet, according to Rosado who said the store was occupied at the time.

No one was hurt and the fire was extinguished at 1:02 p.m. by about 60 firefighters who used 20 pieces of equipment, Rosado said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, Rosado said.
