Fire Erupts in Near West Side Condo

A fire broke out on the roof of a condo building on the Near West Side

Dozens of residents had a rude awakening Tuesday morning after a rooftop fire forced them out of their condominium building on the Near West Side.

Fire crews arrived at the Park 1500 Lofts, 1500 W. Monroe St, around 5 a.m., according to fire officials.

It appears the fire started on the roof of the seven-floor building, but fire officials are still investigating the cause.

"We heard the alarms, then we evacuated when we saw all of the other tenants evacuating with children and pets," said Natalie Draayer Akerele, who lives in the building with her husband.

Fire officials said employees at the 911 center located near the building alerted authorities about the fire.

No one was injured, according to fire officials.
