Firefighters battled the fire at Imperial Sauna for hours

Firefighters in southwest suburban Summit spent the early morning hours battling a stubborn fire that broke out in an industrial building housing Imperial Sauna.

According to reports on the scene, the building at 6135 S. Archer Road is badly damaged.

Emergency crews remained at the scene at South Archer Road and West 61st Street as of 6 a.m., according to a police dispatcher. Archer Avenue was closed from 1st Avenue to 62nd Street and will remain closed at least through part of the morning rush hour, police say.

The fire is believed to have started around 3 a.m. At least part of the roof reportedly caved in.

Police and fire officials were not immediately available for comment. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
