Final Witness Says Burge Put a Gun to His Head

Perjury trial expected to wrap this week

A convicted armed robber says a former Chicago police official removed all but one bullet from a gun, pointed it at him and fired three times.

Shadeed Mu'min testified Tuesday in the perjury and obstruction of justice trial of former Lt. Jon Burge.

Mu'min says Burge was questioning him in 1985 when he took out the revolver and put it to his forehead. He says Burge also suffocated him with a typewriter cover three times until he lost consciousness.

Mu'min says after that, he agreed to sign a statement confessing to his participation in armed robbery and attempted murder.

Burge has pleaded not guilty. He's accused of lying in a civil lawsuit when he denied seeing or participating in the torture of suspects.
