Fetus Found in West Suburban Church

A fetus was found on Saturday in the hallway of a west suburban church, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

No pronouncement information was immediately available, but the fetus was reportedly found as Mass was taking place at St. Louise de Marillac Catholic Parish, 1140 Harrison Ave. in La Grange Park. Father Denis Condon said the mother, a parishioner who regularly attends Mass at St. Louise, had a miscarriage in the women's bathroom during Mass Saturday evening.

The mother fled, likely because she was "traumatized" Condon said, but was found later Saturday night and taken to a nearby hospital. She was expected to be released today, he said.

Another worshipper found the fetus in the hallway outside the bathroom and an usher alerted Condon, who dialed 911.

The congregation prayed for the mother's safety at Mass this morning and last night, he said.

"I told the people about the tragedy and we prayed for the mother, that she'd get medical attention and recover," he said.

LaGrange Park police were investigating, but police would not immediately comment on the case.

An autopsy is scheduled for Sunday.
