Father and Son Injured in Northwest Side Shooting

A father and son were critically injured in a shooting Monday afternoon in the Northwest Side Hermosa neighborhood after an argument in a nearby restaurant.

A 49-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy were shot about 3:30 p.m. in the 2800 block of North Kenneth Avenue, police News Affairs Officer Thomas Sweeney said.

Police responded to a call of a person shot and found the pair unresponsive inside a vehicle, Sweeney said. The teen had been shot in the head, while the man was shot in the back, he said.

Both were taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition, Sweeney said.

According to police at the scene, the two are a father and son who had been at a nearby restaurant where they got into an argument with two other people.

They left to go back to their car, and the suspects followed them out and someone fired three shots at the car, police said. Both were shot and a bullet went through the driver’s side door, police said.

The suspects ran westbound down an alley, police said.
