Father Shoots 12-Year-Old Son: Cops

Police expect charges in the case

A Joliet boy who was allegedly shot in the head by his father is fighting for his life this morning, while cops question his dad.

The shooting happened in an apartment in the 1200 block of Cutter Avenue in Joliet around 5:30 p.m. Monday, the Joliet Herald News reports.

The child's mother identified the shooter as her husband and turned over the gun, said Joliet Police Chief Fred Hayes.

Officers arrested Roderick Tademy, 36, outside the apartment and took him to the police station, the paper reports.

His 12-year-old son is listed in "grave condition," as of Monday night.

"It appears this shooting was intentional - not accidental," said Hayes.

Police said they will wait to interview the victim's 6-year-old siblings, who were in the apartment at the time. The department is planning to announce more details at a press conference Tuesday morning.

Charges against Tademy are expected.
