Father Pfleger: I Want to Stay

The popular and sometimes controversial Father Michael Pfleger says he wants to stay at St. Sabina.

The Archdiocese of Chicago asked Pfleger to take over a struggling Leo Catholic High School. There have been rumors that the Rev. Matt Eyerman, of St. Columbanus, would be tapped to replace Pfleger. But during Sunday services, Eyerman said he would not be transferring to St. Sabina’s. Instead, Eyerman told his parishioners he’s moving to St. Malachy’s parish later this summer.

Sources also say some preiests, who want Pfleger to stay, have lobbied Francis Cardinal George to leave Pfleger at Sabina’s.

According to ChicagoBreakingNews.com, Pfleger said to his congregation Sunday that he told George the same thing.

"My desire is to remain at St. Sabina," he said. "That's what I would like to do."

However, Pfleger said that even if he the Archdiocese does want him to leave, St. Sabina’s will thrive.

"St. Sabina will not fall apart or the church will not be devastated because of Mike Pfleger," he said.
