Father Killed While Riding Four-Wheeler in Clearing Neighborhood

A man was killed while taking a joy ride on an ATV in the city’s Clearing neighborhood Tuesday night.

Police say the 49-year-old was alone on the four-wheeler around 10:30 p.m. when he ran through a stop sign at the intersection of 62nd Street and Austin Avenue and crashed.

Authorities haven't released the man's name yet until family is notified, but neighbors who know him told NBC 5 they were stunned.

“He’s really cautious,” said neighbor Diana LaPorte. “He’s never speeding … He picks up kids, he was an awesome guy. He was awesome.”

Another neighbor remembered him for his generosity, recalling a time the man gave him a wagon to take his kids to the zoo.

Police say he was not wearing a helmet at the time.
