Aldi Slay Suspect Found Dead in Jail

Officers say he used his pajama bottoms to hang himself

The man who Chicago Police say shot a shopper and killed a security guard at a south side Aldi's last week hanged himself overnight while in lock up.

Develt Bradford, 52, of the 5300 block of South Damen Avenue was charged Wednesday night of first-degree murder.

He never made it to court.

Police officers found the man dead in his jail cell early Thursday morning at the Calumet District police station.

Officers say he used his pajama bottoms to kill himself.

Bradford was scheduled to go before a judge Thursday on the murder charges from Nov. 10. He was also charged with two counts of armed robbery for another holdup at the Aldi's at 47th Street and Ashland Avenue on Oct. 28.

A second robber in the Aldi case remains at large, officials said.
