Family, 2 Other Drivers Seriously Injured in Plainfield Accident

Six people—including an infant and a toddler—were seriously injured after an accident Saturday that involved two cars and a motorcycle in Southwest suburban Plainfield.

At about 2:30 p.m. Saturday a Dodge Durango rear-ended a Nissan Altima stopped on Highway 126 to make a left turn on South County Line Road, according to Plainfield Deputy Fire Chief Jon Stratton. The Dodge rolled over, and the Nissan spun and sideswiped a man on a Harley-Davidson motorcycle going eastbound on Highway 126.

A family of a woman, man, an infant and a toddler were riding in the Nissan and were all transported to Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, Stratton said. The man, toddler and infant were transported by ambulance in serious condition and the woman was listed in critical condition. The woman and children had to be extricated from the car by firefighters.

Stratton said the children were properly restrained in car seats.

The driver of the Dodge, a man, was taken in serious condition to Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital, Stratton said.

The motorcyclist was transported to Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora in critical condition, Stratton said. He went into traumatic arrest in the ambulance, Stratton said, and he was not believed to have been wearing a helmet.

The roads in the area are still blocked by police and Plainfield Emergency Management three hours after the accident, Stratton said, and they are expected to reopen at about 6:30 p.m.

Plainfield police were at the scene, as well as Kendall County police and Illinois State troopers, Stratton said.
