Falling TV Critically Injures Girl, 2

The girl remains in critical condition Thursday

A 2-year-old Hamilton Park girl's condition was upgraded from critical to serious Thursday after a TV and dresser fell on her.

The girl's mother heard a loud crash around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday in their home on the 1300 block of West 76th Street. She found her daughter pinned under the television and the dresser it was sitting on.

The girl was rushed to Comer Children's Hospital.

The Department of Children and Family Services told the Chicago Tribune it has begun a neglect investigation into the incident.

Similar incidents resulted in the deaths of four Chicago area children since the fall.

In November, another Hamilton Park girl, 3-year-old Shaniya Singleton, was killed by a falling TV. A 6-year-old boy, Karl Clermont, was killed when a TV fell on his head in October.

Gianna Hadjis, 4, of University Park was killed last month, and 1-year-old Shawn Brown died on Tuesday after a television that detectives guessed weighed about 100 pounds toppled onto him in his Roseland home.
