Facebook Post About Sign Outside Grocery Store Bathroom Goes Viral

The sign explains that the store has a unisex facility “because sometimes gender specific toilets put others into uncomfortable situations.”

A sign posted outside of a bathroom in a Georgia grocery store has gone viral.

The sign explains that the Athens store has a unisex facility “because sometimes gender specific toilets put others into uncomfortable situations.”

The sign says the store wants to provide a place for “friends” who are “Dads with daughters, Moms with sons, Parents with disabled children, Those in the LGBTQ, Adults with aging parents who may be mentally or physically disabled.”

“Thank you for helping us to provide a safe environment for everyone!" the note ends.

The viral Facebook post is captioned, in part: “Nice job Kroger.”  It has been shared over 105,000 times.

The sign has received more attention following Gov. Nathan Deal’s veto of the religious freedom bill on Monday, which critics have argued would have legalized discrimination against the LGBT community.

The Cincinnati-based grocery chain responded to the attention the sign has received in a statement to NBC Chicago:

“Kroger stores with unisex bathrooms are designed to serve our customers in all the ways stated on that sign: parents with young children, parents with disabled children, adults with aging parents, the LGBTQ community and for any other reason such an accommodation might be more convenient. We are proud to serve each and every customer that walks in our doors.”
