FBI Briefs Chicago Police After Paris Terror Attack

Chicago police confirm they have been briefed by the FBI on the events in Paris and the sophisticated tactics used by the assailants there.

“The bulletin was issued as part of our continuous dialogue with the law enforcement and intelligence community,” the FBI said in a statement to NBC5, “in an effort to provide an assessment of the current threat environment and to share information relative to threat indicators, and possible security measurement considerations.”

The bulletin says the attackers displayed a “greater degree of sophistication and advance weapons handling” than is typically seen in an operation using small arms. And it says they acted with confidence and exhibited skill in weapons handling, which it said may be “indicative of prior training.”

The Bureau says it urges the public to remain vigilant, and that overseas terror groups remain committed to attacking western targets.

Elsewhere, there has been no change in the threat status at the nation’s airports. The Department of Homeland Security says it continues to monitor the events in Paris, and will adjust the security posture, as appropriate.
