Ex-CTA Employee Gets Four Years for ID Theft

Miranda Smith faced up to seven years

An ex-CTA employee was sentenced to 4 years in prison today for stealing customers' personal info to buy merch from local department stores.

Miranda Smith, 24, of Chicago, pleaded guilty to aggravated identity theft and identity theft charges. She was initially charged in 2007 and faced up to 7 years in prison.

Smith was a CTA customer service rep between April and October 2007. She was responsible for taking customers' credit card info to help them re-up their fare cards.
