Evanston Plans Noisy Celebration if Cubs Win World Series

If the Chicago Cubs can pull off a historic victory on Wednesday night, a suburb of Chicago has found an interesting way to celebrate.

The city of Evanston announced before the World Series that if the Cubs win the championship that they would set off the town’s emergency sirens to celebrate the victory. Evanston officials reminded residents of the plan on Wednesday morning ahead of Game 7 of the World Series:

If the Cubs win and the sirens go off, it would be an interesting homage to a tradition that dates back to the 1959 season for the Chicago White Sox. When that team won the American League pennant, Chicago officials, led by Fire Commissioner Robert J. Quinn, set off air raid sirens for five minutes, sending a good chunk of the city into a panic as they worried whether the Soviet Union had launched an attack on the United States.

As we know now, those fears were unfounded, and Evanston officials are hoping to replicate that noisy celebration on Wednesday night.
