A north suburban jewelery store employee was tied up and robbed at gunpoint Tuesday by a suspect currently at large.
Police responded to Diadem Jewelers in Evanston after the report of a robbery came in, the Evanston Police Department said. Authorities are still trying to determine what jewelry items are missing.
According to the victim, the store was open for business when a black male entered, brandishing a handgun and announcing the robbery. The suspect tied the store employee up with flexible plastic bindings and removed jewelry from display cases. He ran out the back door, fleeing the scene on foot.
The police were called after someone passed by the store and noticed the employee tied up inside.
Police were able to obtain images of the man from video footage of the store. He is described as 6-feet-tall, 30 years old and wearing sunglasses, a scarf, a black leather coat, dark jeans and dark gym shoes.
