A woman who ran high school track in Evanston is headed to the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, where she will represent her parents' native Nigeria.
Twenty-two-year-old Margaret Bamgbose is a 2012 graduate of Evanston Township High School. She graduated this spring from the University of Notre Dame.
Bamgbose has dual citizenship. The Nigerian team chose her to run the 400-meter dash and the 4x400-meter relay.
She qualified with a time of 52.27 seconds at the Nigerian Olympic trials earlier this summer.
Bamgbose recently returned to Evanston and received surprise wishes of good luck from participants in a summer camp where her brother is a counselor.
As a student in Evanston she won a state championship in the 300-meter hurdles. She was runner-up in the 200-meter dash.
