Empire Carpet Man Dies

Elmer Lynn Hauldren passed away at the age of 89

The man synonymous with the numbers (800) 588-2300 (EMPIRE) has died.

Elmer Lynn Hauldren, better known as the Empire Carpet Man, was 89.

Hauldren portrayed the flooring company's character on TV since the 1970s. He started as an advertising copywriter for Empire until he was asked by the company's owner to be on-air talent for the commercials.

Though the character evolved into an animated character, Hauldren continued to lend his voice to Empire’s ads until his passing.

“Lynn was truly passionate about the Empire brand,” said Steve Silvers, chief executive officer for Empire, in a statement. “He has made an indelible mark on advertising history with his creativity and warmth. Lynn will always have a special place in the hearts of many.”

Hauldren was a decorated World War II veteran. Among other talents, he also was known for his barbershop quartet singing and community acting.
