Chicago-Based Company Hired to Recruit 100,000 Vets for Walmart

To honor Memorial Day, Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced Monday that a Chicago-based company was selected to recruit 100,000 veterans to be hired by Walmart within the next five years.

The Chicago-based PeopleScout, which places more U.S. Military veterans in full-time employment that any recruitment firm in the world, was not only tasked with recruiting the veterans within the next five years, but also providing end-to-end recruitment and career counseling services.

In addition to the recruitment for Walmart, PeopleScout also pledged to comprise their hiring team almost entirely of U.S. Military veterans, the company said. The 70 newly-hired Chicago vets begin their work with the team on Memorial Day.

The task to hire the 100,000 vets marks the largest ever outsourced recruitment effort focused on veteran hiring, according to a press release on the initiative.

"PeopleScout is a wonderful Chicago company that is helping America's heroes find jobs," Emanuel said in a statement. “I also commend Walmart for their commitment to hiring veterans; this is a great program that will help many families around the country have a better quality of life and a brighter future."

The companies will also work together to launch a talent exchange, which will match vets with job opportunities that most closely fit their background and interests.
