Eighth Grader Suspended Over Handgun

Student could be suspended up to a year

A Northwest Indiana eighth grader could be suspended for a year for bringing an unloaded handgun to school.

Police took the student away from Kouts Middle School Tuesday morning after others saw him with a gun, according to the Northwest Indiana Times.

East Porter County Schools Superintendent Rod Gardin says the student never pointed the gun or threatened anyone.

He won't say why the boy had the gun at school.
