ER Patient Attacks Doctor

Police: doctor fell to the ground, lost tooth

Don't bite the hand that feeds you, and don't punch the doctor who's treating you.

A South Side man was charged with aggravated battery after he allegedly punched an emergency room doctor,  the Sun-Times reports.

Dennis Rushing, 38, was being treated for an undisclosed injury in the emergency room at Provident Hospital (500 E 51st St) at about 7 p.m. last night.

A 33-year-old male doctor began attending to him, but Rushing coughed and spat in his face, said police.

How's that for gratitude?

The doctor cleaned himself up and, remarkably, returned to Rushing to finish treating him. Not wanting a repeat performance though, police said the doctor tried to put a surgical mask on the difficult patient.

"[Rushing] at that point became enraged and began to strike the doctor about the head and face, punching him and knocking him to the ground," police told Chicago Breaking News.

Reportedly, the poor doctor suffered multiple scratches and bruises to the face, and he even lost a tooth.

Hospital security detained Rushing until police arrived and arrested him.
