EEOC: Bank of America Fired Worker Because He Was Blind

Bank of America will pay $110,000 in a settlement to a former temp worker after resolving a disability discrimination case brought by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

The EEOC alleged that Bank of America failed to accommodate a visually impaired data entry worker and instead terminated his job, which was located at a downtown Chicago branch. The settlement was announced Friday, the EEOC said.

The EEOC filed a lawsuit on behalf of the worker on Nov. 13, 2011, the EEOC said. In addition to monetary relief, Bank of America must provide reasonable accommodations to workers at its branches throughout Illinois, the EEOC said.
