Authorities in north suburban Vernon Hills are searching for the hit-and-run driver of a car that left a pedestrian seriously injured early Saturday.

At about 3:30 a.m., the car was traveling southbound on Oakwood Road when it struck a person near Valley Road and then drove off, according to Vernon Hills police.

The victim, a 23-year-old Vernon Hills resident, was able to walk to a nearby home to call for help and later was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with serious injuries, police said.

Investigators analyzed debris at the scene, and they believe the vehicle was a 1999-2005 Volkswagen Jetta with damage to the front end and lower front trim on the driver side. Authorities haven’t been able to determine the color of the car.
