Driver Shot at Stoplight in University Village

The man was shot in the head and leg and continued driving his car until he crashed a few blocks away from the scene of the shooting

A man driving a car was shot Friday evening while stopped at a stoplight in the University Village neighborhood on the city's Near West Side.

The man was driving at about 9:30 p.m. in the 1000 block of West Congress Parkway when he stopped at a stoplight. While his car was resting, someone inside a light-colored vehicle fired shots at the man, striking him in the head and leg, according to Chicago Police News Affairs.

The victim continued to drive the car until he lost control and crashed into a building in the 500 block of West Van Buren Street, police said.

An ambulance transported the man to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition stabilized.
