Driver Grabs License Plate, Tries to Flee Fatal Crash

Driver turned in front of motorcyclist

A 37-year-old Dolton woman was killed Saturday night in a crash between a car and the motorcycle she was riding in the south suburb.

The crash happened at 655 E. Sibley Blvd., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. Killed was Ernestine Temple, of 14418 S. Kimbark in Dolton. Temple was pronounced dead at Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey at 9:10 p.m., according to the medical examiner.

Temple was riding a Harley Davidson motorcycle eastbound on Sibley when a Ford SUV that was also on Sibley, turned onto Everts Street, failed to yield and hit her, according to Dolton spokeswoman TaQuoya Kennedy. It was not immediately known what direction the SUV was going.

The man behind the wheel of the SUV grabbed his license plates and tried to flee on foot, but his nephew remained inside the SUV after the crash. Bystanders and witnesses ran after the driver, and held him until police got there and arrested him , Kennedy said.

Charges were pending Sunday afternoon.
