Driver Fleeing Accident in Schaumburg Dies in Another Moments Later: Police

A man who drove away from an accident was involved in another, killing himself and another driver, according to Schaumburg Police.

Police responded to a report of a traffic accident involving a 2009 Honda and a
2006 Mitsubishi Galant on Monday at 7:05 p.m. The woman behind the Mitsubishi, 39-year-old Erin L. Semerad, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Honda, 19-year old Michael J. Owsiany of Elk Grove, was taken to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, according to police. He died of his injuries while at the facility.

A passenger in the Honda, 23-year old Ashley E. Trenholm from Schaumburg, was taken to the same hospital and is listed in critical condition, according to police.

A preliminary investigation shows that Owsiany had been in two separate traffic accidents within a minute apart, according to police. Earlier, he had been travelling southbound on Springinsguth Road at the intersection of Dedham Lane when he rear-ended a 2011 Scion.

The driver of the Scion did not report injuries over the crash, according to police.

The Schaumburg Police Department is looking into this accident with the assistance of the Major Case Assistance Team (MCAT) Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction.
