“Distinctive Tattoo” Helped Lead Cops to Murder Suspect

A Champaign man's choice of neck tattoos appears to have helped investigators in identifying a suspect in the killing of a Gold Coast businessman in March.

Tyneil Washington, 29, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder Friday in connection with the March 1 shooting in the 2300 block of West 57th Street.

Prosecutors say Herbert Goode, 66, had just finished collecting rent from his tenants when he got into a struggle with Washington outside the building that ended with Washington shooting the victim several times.

According to Assistant State’s Attorney Alexandra Molesky said the suspect sketch police released following the crime included a “distinctive tattoo” on his neck that may have the word “PAM” with a ribbon underneath. Court documents show that Washington has the PAM tattoo on his neck, along with the words “Cut Throat” tattooed on his neck above a tattoo of a bleeding slash wound.

Washington was being held at Cook County Jail on a $5 million warrant, but Judge Peggy Chiampas ordered him held without bond during a Monday hearing.

Goode owned the Silver Cloud Gallery at 20 W. Ohio St.
