Man Stabbed Outside Wrigleyville Bar

Attacker acted like he wanted a hug; stabbed the man instead

A man who got into an argument inside a Wrigleyville bar's bathroom early Sunday thought it was over when he walked away.  But as he was standing outside the bar around 1 a.m., man he'd traded words with earlier came up and stabbed him, police say.

It happened at Deuce's and the Diamond Club, at 3505 N. Clark St.

The victim suffered multiple stab wounds and was taken to Advocate Masonic Medical Center in serious condition. The man who stabbed him remained at large Sunday afternoon, News Affairs Officer Michael Sullivan said.

As the 24-year-old victim was outside talking on his cell phone, the other man came outside, too, and walked up as if to give him a hug.  Instead he stabbed the victim in the back and upper left arm, Sullivan said.

The attacker ran and was not in custody as of about 1 p.m. Sunday.

Belmont Area detectives are investigating.
