Derrick Rose Makes Team USA's 16-Man Cut

Chicago Bulls Point Guard Derrick Rose is among 16 finalists to make the 12-man USA Basketball roster.

Rose, who's recovering from his second major knee injury in as many years, shined at tryouts for the FIBA World Cup team, giving many Chicago fans hope that he might return to dominant form for the coming NBA season.

Rose's breakout performance in camp tryouts was overshadowed by a gruesome injury suffered by Indiana's Paul George. But coaches lauded Rose as one of the best on the court.

“Derrick’s played great, not good, and hasn’t held anything back,” coach Mike Krzyzewski told NBC Sports.

Team USA's next practice takes place in Chicago 14 and 15. The team will scrimmage Brazil on August 16.

The team will trim to 12 players before it heads to Spain on August 23. Rose is expected to make the final roster.
