Deadly Crash Shuts Down Southbound Stevenson Traffic

Three hours after a fatal crash on the Stevenson Expressway on the Near South Side Saturday morning, all southbound lanes of traffic near the site of the crash remained shut down.

The accident happened about 3:50 a.m. in the southbound lanes of the Stevenson (I-55) at Franklin Street, near I-90, a District Chicago State Police trooper said.

One person was killed in the crash, the trooper said. State Police did not have any additional details as of about 6:50 a.m.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's office was notified Saturday morning of a woman in her 20s who was killed in a motor vehicle crash early Saturday, but the office could not confirm if this woman was a victim from the Stevenson crash.

All southbound Stevenson traffic around the scene of the crash was still being diverted to I-94 southbound as of 6:50 a.m., another state trooper said.

Accident reconstruction personnel were on the scene Saturday morning.
