A Chicago police officer was shot in the knee and a suspect was killed during a shootout at a Family Dollar store on the city's South Side.
Police were called to a robbery in progress at the Family Dollar store in the West Englewood neighborhood around 8:30 p.m. on Monday.
When officers arrived, the suspect was still inside the store armed with a gun. That's when officers went in the store and began firing out of fear for their lives, striking the suspect, police said.
The suspect, 27-year-old Jerome Williams, died at the scene, police said.
The officer who was shot in the knee is expected to recover. Wentworth area detectives continue to investigate the incident.
