A deadly fire killed one man and critically injured another adult in a fire on the South Side.

Flames engulfed the basement and first floor of a two-story home in the 6800 block of South Saint Lawrence Avenue in the Park Manor neighborhood around 8:55 p.m. Thursday.

Firefighters found James Cole, 59, dead in the basement, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Firefighters rescued another man from the home's first floor. He was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center in serious-to-critical condition, said fire media spokesman Richard Rosado.

The fire also displaced four other people.

The cause is under investigation.
