Random Act of Violence Claims Liquor Store Clerk

A man working at a west suburban Brookfield liquor store was fatally shot Friday night in a robbery that police called a random act of violence.

At 10:27 p.m., two gunman fatally shot a 39-year-old man working at Phoenix Liquor, 8814 Ogden Ave., Brookfield Police Chief Steven Stelter said.

Bashar Fakhouri, of 11730 S. Rosemary Lane in Alsip, was pronounced dead at 10:54 p.m. at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office who said he was 38 years old.

The gunmen were last seen fleeing the scene, going north from the liquor store. It is unclear what they got away with, said Stelter, who called the shooting a crime of opportunity and a random act of violence.

A woman staying at a motel across the street from the store called for help when she heard shots fired, Stelter said.

Brookfield Police are investigating.
