Laptop Thefts Up at Local Colleges

DePaul and Loyola both saw an increase in recent laptop thefts

Local college students are being advised to keep a close eye on their laptops after a recent uptick in thefts on several college campuses.

DePaul University issued an alert on Tuesday to students and college staff about the theft of laptops from various public areas on campus. The school's Lincoln Park campus was the most recent with thefts in the Richardson Library and Student Center, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

The University of Chicago also experienced recent laptop theft. At the Hyde Park campus, dozens of mostly MacBooks were stolen from libraries, dining halls and other buildings. Most of the computers were taken while unattended, though others were swiped while the owner was unaware, according to reports.

Both schools have urged students to take precautions to avoid theft.
