Mayor Daley says he doesn't want to see trick-or-treaters patrolling the streets on Halloween.

Mayor Daley on Tuesday told the Chicago Police Department to correct the security breach that allowed a 14-year-old to pass as a Chicago police officer -- and to make his way onto the streets for a five-hour tour of duty before Halloween.

"I'd hate to see it at Halloween," he said.

"If a 12- or 14-year-old child walks into the police station on Halloween, they'll get behind the desk. They'll give 'em a car. They'll give him a badge," the Sun-Times quoted him as saying.

Last week, police Supt. Jody Weis asked the U.S. Secret Service to review the Police Department's security procedures to plug the gaps exploited by the 14-year-old, and Daley supported the plan.

Some veteran cops grumbled about it, saying Weis' federal pedigree and $310,000-a-year salary ought to cover it.
