Dad Charged After Son Shot During Struggle for Gun

Police said the two were wrestling for possession of the gun when it went off

A Chicago father was charged Monday after his 17-year-old son was shot and critically wounded Saturday during a struggle between the two over a gun, police said.

Charles Johnson, 53, of the 1300 block of West Estes was charged with a felony count of unlawful use of a weapon.

Police said Johnson's son was shot in the head while wrestling his father for possession of the loaded handgun. The gun belonged to Johnson, police said, but the son had taken the weapon.

Johnson confronted his son about having the gun, police said, and the two began to fight.

While they wrestled for it, the gun discharged.

The boy was listed in critical condition over the weekend.
