DUI Charges Filed in Fatal West Ridge Crash

The driver allegedly blew a stop sign and hit another car

A 20-year-old man has been charged with driving under the influence in a crash that killed a 17-year-old Saturday.

Francisco Campos, of the 5600 block of North Central, was driving a 2003 Ford Explorer on Artesian about 2 a.m. Saturday when he allegedly blew a stop sign and hit a car traveling west on North Shore, police said.

Campos then kept driving and the SUV hit two parked cars and a tree, police said.

The crash injured four teens and killed 17-year-old Bahra Echmail.

Echmail, an Iraqi refugee whose parents fled persecution as Christians six years ago, died early Saturday.
