Cubs Change Wrigleyville Block Party Location

The first-ever Wrigleyville Block Party is this weekend -- on Cubs property instead of Sheffield Avenue

Cubs fans will have at least one reason to celebrate this weekend, no matter the outcome of the games.

The first of three Wrigleyville Block Parties starts this weekend during the New York Yankees series. The three-day party starts Friday in a parking lot on the west side of Wrigley Field boarding Clark Street.

The Cubs originally hoped to host the event on Sheffield Avenue, but after merchants and residents didn't take to the idea, the organization decided to move the event to their own property, The Sun-Times reports.

This isn't the first festival held in Wrigleyville. In November 2010 the Northwestern Wildcats hosted a festival on Sheffield Avenue. The positive response to the event led to the creation of the block parties.

The next set of parties takes place during the Cubs-Sox Crosstown Cup, July 1-3, and the Cubs-Cardinals series, Aug. 19-21.

Plenty of entertainment will be available for those who come out to the event, including live music, activities for kids and the newly launched Cubs Trolley.

The event opens from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday and is free to get in.
