Cubs Celebrated Pennant With Impromptu Concert

The Chicago Cubs are known for their ability to party, and that’s exactly what they did at Wrigley Field Saturday night after they clinched their first World Series berth in 71 years with a win over the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Naturally, that’s not where the party ended.

After the team had sprayed champagne and beer all over each other at the Friendly Confines, just about everyone on the roster met up at Jon Lester’s Chicago home to continue the party. According to Yahoo’s Jeff Passan, everyone from David Ross to Jake Arrieta to Kris Bryant was there, and they partied well into the morning after the team’s 5-0 win over the Dodgers.

Joining that group? None other than Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder.

“In Boston, nobody really hung out,” Lester told Passan about celebrities that have embraced the teams that he’s been on. “They’d just come to the game and leave. But he’s a huge Cubs fan. He’d rather hang out with us than go play and be a rock star.”

Of course, Vedder didn’t just show up and drink Lester’s booze. He pulled out a guitar and played a wide variety of songs, entertaining the players and adding life to a party that was seven decades in the making.

“One of the greatest rock stars of all time is over hanging out with us, playing songs and singing along,” Arrieta told the site. “Memories you can’t forget. Things I’m gonna tell my friends and family and kids and grandkids until I can’t tell ‘em anymore.”

With all of the camaraderie that the team has shown over the course of the last two seasons, it’s become clear that the men in the clubhouse share a bond deeper than that of a normal team, and Arrieta articulated that feeling perfectly.

“To do it with a group of guys like this – we’re family,” he said. “This is a bond we’ll have for the rest of our lives.”
