Cubs Announce Plans for Celebrating 100 Years at Wrigley

The Chicago Cubs celebrated Wrigley Field’s 100th birthday in 2014, but the team plans to commemorate the 100-year anniversary of playing in the historic ballpark in 2016.

To do that, the team unveiled a new logo Thursday to mark the big milestone:

Fans who remember the 100-year birthday of Wrigley Field may question why the team is celebrating another centennial, but it is indeed historically accurate.

The Cubs didn’t play in the ballpark during the 1914 season, with the Federal League’s Chicago Whales serving as the original tenant. When the Federal League folded, Charles Weeghman purchased the Cubs as part of the settlement with Major League Baseball, and moved the team into the ballpark beginning in the 1916 campaign.

According to the team, they will announce more celebrations in conjunction with the event before the start of the new campaign.
